I awoke one morning and felt God calling me to “cleanse my house.”
I knew the area in the closet he was talking about. The box with years of Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and more materials. The Points calculators—paper and electronic. The restaurant guides and recipes. A decade of idolatry.
I tossed it in the trash.
The handbag full of more materials—in the trash.
When I sifted through my basket of books, I discovered the Body for Life book. And I went to the office to retrieve the Body for Life for women.
I’ve had waves of cleansing. Cookbooks, diet books, programs. How these idols like to hide.
1 Corinthians 10:14 says: “Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.” Run away!
And 1 John 5:21 calls us to “Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.”
We must cleanse our hearts and our homes of anything that would dare to take the place of God in our hearts. For diet addicts like me (and this must be God-led), that could very well be the program materials of diets we’ve looked to for deliverance–rather than God. (God will be your guide–not me!)
Romans 12 gives us the motivation to cleanse our homes and lives.
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God (not diets). Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will accept (complete obedience).
“When you think of what he has done for you, is this too much to ask? (no!)
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world!!!
But let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.
(Wow! Wow!)
Then you will know what God wants you to do (mind change, not rules),
And you will know how
Good
And pleasing
And perfect
His will really is!”
Amen!
Does God’s plan really work? I’ve asked myself that many times…
Why do you want to be free of diet addiction and the yo-yo of…
